John W. Pojman's Personal Statement I was born and raised in Ohio and after 10 years with the United States Air Force, I moved to Columbia in 1968. I started working for an HVAC company and one evening on the way home, heard about a young boy who was hit by a car and left by the road because we had no nearby emergency service available. I pressured the Trustees about starting a program and was asked if I would be one of the first to volunteer. I was - and the rest is history. After 30 years with the Columbia Fire Department as a fireman and EMT Advanced, I retired to become a Trustee. My involvement in the community extended to coaching and managing Hot Stove baseball and helping build the first T-ball field and the present concession stand and painting bleachers. I even drove a school bus for 2 years. I have also been active in Lorain County 4-H for 25 years. My wife of 45 years, Annette, and I have five children and twelve grandchildren - quite a few living in the immediate area. I’ve owned my own heating and cooling business for 27 years. I want only the best for Columbia and as a Trustee I have worked with the County Commissioners, Lorain County Trustee Association, our state representative, Matt Lundy, and presently sit on the board at Southwest General Hospital. Important future goals: Keep taxes low, provide an excellent Fire Department and road crew, and maintain and improve parks. To let Columbia grow but in a controlled manner, complying with all rules and regulations. I seek more community involvement in the operation of township government and I will listen to all concerns and give honest answers to questions. Columbia is my home and I am proud of it. I hope that you will consider voting for me in November. Thank you, John W. Pojman
